Review:
After hearing about Heavy Rain over a year ago, I was eagerly waiting to see if this game holds up to the pre-release praise. After playing the demo, I was intrigued with the story, the characters, and the controls.

I really don't think it would be right to tell much of the story, since so much of it depends on your actions. Basically, you're dealing with a father who is recently divorced, and lives with the pain and guilt of the death of a child. This story is told in a totally interactive way that allows you to make several decisions on how to progress the story. The beginning may seem somewhat mundane as you have to get out of bed, brush your teeth, and take a shower. What is really going on, is a creative way to teach you how to control the main character. The beginning of this game does not depend on blowing things up or shooting lots of zombies, instead, the focus is on getting to know the characters, and getting involved in the storyline.

The characters in this game are realistic, and sometimes elicit emotional responses. Instead of relying on fast action scenes, and lots of explosives, Heavy Rain follows a dramatic storyline that draws you in and puts you in charge of what will happen to them. One of my first concerns was with the controls. I got a little irritated with them when I first played the demo, but soon realized that I was trying to play it like other games I've played before. That's when it hit me, this game was not meant to be controled in the same manner as other games. What was originally something I didn't like about this game, I have come to love the controls for Heavy Rain. The ability to control the speed with which the characters moves and handles objects really adds to the atmosphere of the game.

Conclusion: If you're looking for a great looking shooter, by all means DON'T buy Heavy Rain. It's just not that kind of game. However, if you're an adult who has been looking for a truly mature game with great characterizations, real story telling, and great graphics, I truly believe you will like Heavy Rain. If you're still not sure, either download the demo on PS3 Home, or rent the game before you buy it. This truly is a new kind of game that relies more on atmosphere and characters than awesome weapons and flashy special effects. Honestly, I love a great shooter, but it's also awesome to have a new kind of game to play. Heavy Rain is bound to set a new standard in the development of more mature titles.
